About the Institute
The Institute for Nuclear Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences is a large scientific center dealing with particle physics, with a wide network of international cooperation projects.
The main focus at INR RAS is on the creation and development of unique research facilities and centers for collective use, among which the High-Current Linear Hydrogen Ion Accelerator Complex in Troitsk, the Baksan Neutrino Observatory in the Elbrus region (Kabardino-Balkarian Republic), and the Baikal Neutrino Telescope (Lake Baikal, Irkutsk region) and the experiment “Troitsk nu-mass” (Troitsk, Moscow). INR RAS also conducts work on cosmology, neutrino physics, astrophysics, high-energy physics, accelerator physics and technology, neutron research and nuclear medicine. The Institute has created a number of innovative high-tech developments, including technologies for the production of a wide range of radioactive isotopes for diagnostics and therapy in medicine and technical purposes, including a strontium-rubidium generator for PET. The Institute for Nuclear Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences is one of the leading nuclear physics research centers, employing more than a thousand people, of whom 55 are Doctors of Science and 137 Candidates of Science.
The INR RAS has a Scientific and Educational Center that coordinates the training and scientific work of undergraduate and graduate students, and there is also a Council for the Defense of Dissertations. The Institute is a partner of leading scientific centers in Russia and the world, including FIAN, IHEP, PNPI, ITEP, MIPT, MEPhI, SINP MSU, ISU, IHEP, IC RAS, NIC KI, JINR, CERN; INFN (Italy); DESY, GSI, BJO-OD, KIT (Germany); ORNL, LANL, BNL, FERMILAB (USA); TRIUMF (Canada); J-PARC, KEK (Japan) and many others.
